This semester, dare to defy your status quo

For a college senior like me, the beginning of the Fall semester is a time to look forward, consider job prospects and tie up loose ends academically. It is also a time to reflect on experiences, good and bad, from the last three years. As my journey at UF has shown, a semester or two in college can alter the course of your life.

Column: Resolutions for reflection

Culling through everything I’ve read about the new year, articles usually include two things: resolutions and motivational quotes meant to inspire readers to follow through with said resolutions for at least a month. These articles don’t exactly represent creative and original ways to look at the new year, but you know what they say. “You can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been.”

In Memorial: Brélan Eytan Moritz

Brélan Eytan Moritz, age 29, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Gainesville, Florida. He was born in Panama City, Florida, in 1985 and attended Lynn Haven Elementary, Mowat Middle School, and Mosley High School where he graduated as the valedictorian and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida in 2008, his master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from UCLA in 2009, and was a PhD candidate in Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida. The process for the award of a posthumous Doctor of Philosophy degree has been initiated.

Happiness can be found through selfishness

A survey conducted in the fall by the University of California, Los Angeles, revealed that first-year college students are more depressed than ever. It’s not just first-year students who are facing mental health issues, however.
