I first became interested in cooking in high school and came to UF (pursuing a degree in art) with ideas and recipes that have helped me cook healthily for myself while staying on a budget. Because I am on often cooking on the fly for one, I have to remain flexible; thus I developed an improvisational attitude towards cooking. As I see it, if you become familiar with a particular ingredient, technique, or basic recipe and learn how to play with it, it can become so much more than one involved, rigid recipe ever could.
Contrary to a letter written to the editor Tuesday, I can safely assume that there is life beyond Lil Wayne and Kanye West. We all love the infamous song "Lollipop," but if anybody appreciates good music they can also jam to "Jungle Love" and "The Joker" without having to be 50 years old.
Moving into a new apartment can be an exciting experience, but for some, it's nothing more than a headache.
The world's largest particle accelerator will conduct its inaugural test tomorrow morning, shooting protons at near-light speed around its 17-mile ring. Tomorrow afternoon, thousands of contributing international scientists will breathe a well-deserved sigh of relief. Unless of course the accelerator creates a black hole that devours the Earth, which probably won't happen. I think.
We cannot continue to believe we are the greatest nation in the world.
The recent complaints by Miami coach Randy Shannon about the Gators "running up the score" with a late field goal were completely out of line. To suggest that Urban Meyer has no character and is a bad person for letting his inexperienced kicker attempt a field goal late in a game is simply ridiculous.
Former Gators basketball player Edward "Teddy" Dupay pleaded not guilty to counts of rape, kidnapping and sexual assault at a preliminary trial Monday.
One day away from the seventh anniversary of Sept. 11, Americans are still preparing themselves for the possibility of another terrorist attack.
As a supporter of presidential candidate Bob Barr, I would like to respond to Kyle Robisch's commentary by saying thank you. It is most flattering to a candidate and his supporters when someone pays attention, especially when he repeats the same old boring argument the Republicrats always use when a third-party candidate breaks out of the pack.
I was happy to see the editorial about staying classy. I'm glad someone commented about some of the nasty things said between Miami and UF fans. My group of friends was a mix of Gators and Hurricanes fans.
Cool, calm, poised, unflappable.
Election 2008 has finally cast all of its actors.
The largest student-run pep rally has once again failed to deliver a show for students. Instead, it will feature the Steve Miller Band playing their greatest hits for alumni.
It sure didn't take long for questions about UF's running game to resurface. Just a week after running over Hawaii's defense, the Gators' running backs combined for just seven yards rushing Saturday against Miami.
It seemed harmless at the time, but UF's field goal with a victory already in hand against Miami on Saturday night has started a small war of words.
Some Sikh, Arab and Muslim Americans became targets of hate crimes in the weeks following Sept. 11 for wearing a turban and a beard, characteristics Americans began to associate with terrorists.
Another year of fraternity rush has come and gone. Rush is the most pivotal event for any fraternity at UF. It is a modern example of survival of the fittest. Fraternities need a steady member count to persist or they could die out. Rush is intended to be a way for fraternities to get together and celebrate Greek unity, but it has drastically failed to accomplish such.
College of Engineering Dean Pramod Khargonekar, whose resignation was announced in December, has decided to stay on as the college's dean through the end of this academic year.
