No. 4 Gators fall short of NCAA Title

Utah placed first with an overall score of 197.9375, while UF claimed an overall score of 197.8750. Oklahoma placed third with a 196.6625 and Alabama scored a 195.4125.
This year's competition marks Florida's 40th NCAA Championships appearance in the event's 42-year history. The Gators have previously won the 2013, 2014 and 2015 NCAA Titles.

Florida placed first with an overall score of 198.325, Utah finished second with a score of 197.575, Missouri came in third with a score of 197.325 and Michigan State placed fourth with an overall score of 196.625.

The No. 4 Florida Gators gymnastics team (17-1, 6-1 SEC) defeated Iowa State, Long Island University and No. 18 North Carolina State with a score of 197.900 Friday evening in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in its last regular season meet.
The Gators reached its crescendo on the bars with senior Leanne Wong's near-perfect performance. A minor deduction prevented her from clinching a perfect 10, but her 9.975 propelled the Gators ahead.
Pilgrim, however, kept the momentum alive with her elegant floor routine that earned her a 10. The freshman’s first collegiate perfect score followed with an all-around score of 39.675.
The No. 5 Florida Gators (10-1, 5-1 SEC) upset the No. 2 Louisiana State Tigers (7-3, 4-2 SEC) 198.150-197.950 Friday evening. Florida earned a season-high score of 198.150.
Florida and LSU are the only two teams in the SEC continuously in line for the conference championship trophy. With the season coming to a close, UF, LSU and Kentucky are currently tied with 4-1 records.
The No. 6 Florida Gators (9-1, 4-1 SEC) beat the No.14 Missouri Tigers (8-3, 2-3 SEC), the No. 27 Illinois Fighting Illini (7-6, 1-3 B1G) and the Lindenwood Lions (8-6, 3-1 MIC) 197.625 on the road in St. Charles, Missouri, in a quad meet. This marked the Gators’ highest team score of the season.

Senior Ellie Lazzari felt the pressure as she stepped on the mat for the uneven bars. A hard fall in the landing of her vault routine forced numerous deductions to tally a 9.150 for her in the apparatus.
UF junior Leanne Wong kept the Gators afloat as they struggled in parts of their meet against Auburn. Wong clinched the leaderboard spot on both the uneven parallel bars and the floor exercise. On the bars, she earned the highest score of a 9.950 just ahead of two other Florida gymnasts.
While Asian Americans represent just 2% of student-athletes in the NCAA, Gators gymnasts Morgan Hurd, Victoria Nguyen and Leanne Wong have continued to find ways to embrace their identities.
Falling shy of the 2023 NCAA Championship, the Florida gymnastics team is resolute in its pursuit of clinching the coveted title this year. The loss of prominent veteran gymnasts All-American Trinity Thomas and Kayla DiCello reshaped the landscape of Florida’s 2024 roster.
