Coming into the weekend, Florida’s only loss of the season was against Baylor. On Friday that defeat was avenged.
Southeastern Conference play starts in March, and the NCAA Tournament does not begin until May, but both of Florida’s tennis teams are getting an early season test against 16 of the best squads in the country.
Coach Roland Thornqvist wanted to see how his No. 7 Gators would respond to the test of a talented USF, and they aced it.
The lineup was different, but the result was familiar.
The Gators found out they can win with a different line up today against FAU.
The No. 11 Gators men’s tennis team met a team goal Sunday when it beat Georgia Tech to advance to the round of 16 ITA Indoor Team Championships Feb. 12-15 in Charlottesville, Va.
The No. 8 Gators women’s tennis team remained perfect (4-0) beating FIU on Sunday in the championship match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend, advancing to the round of 16 of the ITA Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., on Feb. 12-15.
The Gators showed up at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for their 10 a.m. match against Furman. At 8:15 p.m., after a 10-hour rain delay, the two teams finally squared off in the opening match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
It’s a busy weekend for tennis in Gainesville.
The UF women’s tennis team improved its record to 2-0 when it defeated UCF on Wednesday.
When Florida takes on UCF today at 5 p.m., two freshmen will be leading the charge for the Gators.
After opening it dual match season with an impressive shutout victory at home over UCF on Friday, the Gators men’s tennis team were dealt its first loss Sunday on the road against No. 6 Baylor.

After beginning ITA Regional Championship play Friday with a combined 15 entrants, Allie Will on the women's side and the doubles team of Alex Lacroix and Antoine Benneteau on the men's have traversed difficult fields and still have a shot to win titles Monday.
