The Gators women’s tennis team will have an opportunity to bounce back this weekend, after a subpar performance at the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight this past weekend.
It was a forgettable Final Round for both the Gators men’s and women’s golf teams.
A week after the men came and left Chicago without much fanfare, the women’s squad currently sits in a prime position to leave the Windy City with its second victory on the year.

For the fourth time in as many years, the Gators made the cross-country trek to Portland, Oregon, for the 54-hole Nike Collegiate Invitational.
The Gators women’s tennis team showed out on the singles court on the second day of the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight. Florida’s four representatives — McCartney Kessler, Victoria Emma, Marlee Zein and Layne Sleeth — all picked up a win in the first round of singles competition. Sleeth’s performance was most notable, knocking off No. 8 Anna Rogers of NC State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to claim her third consecutive victory over a ranked opponent. The freshman out of Markham, Ontario, Canada, ran into injury trouble after advancing to the main draw, though, forcing her to withdraw from her match against No. 79 Shiori Fukuda and ending her day. Zein and Kessler also both withdrew from their second-round matches after picking up wins against Alana Wolfberg and Catherine Gulihur, respectively. Emma was the only Gator active in the afternoon slate but fell to NC State’s Alana Smith in straight sets to close out the Gators’ Saturday in Lake Nona, Florida.
The UF swimming and diving teams are a combined 6-0 after their weekend trip to south Florida.

There was one pressing question facing Florida’s men’s and women’s tennis teams this weekend: How would they respond to their most difficult challenges of the season?
Florida’s underdog cross country squad littered with redshirts and freshmen nearly swept the competition in Orlando without its top 16 runners.
The Florida cross country team sent its top runners to the UVA Invitational Friday where they finished sixth in the women’s 6K and ninth in the men’s 8K.

Today will be an unconventional day for the Florida cross country team. The team will split into two separate groups — one will compete at the Virginia Invitational and the other will head to Orlando to take part in the UCF Knights Invitational.
They say that everything’s bigger in Texas, and that includes the Florida tennis teams’ win columns. Both the men’s and women’s teams were successful in the Lone Star State last weekend.
The Gators were never supposed to seriously contend this weekend.

It wasn’t the trailblazing, birdie-filled golf that was good enough for third place in last week’s season-opener, but the Gators women’s golf team still managed to capture its first win of the season at the Glass City Invitational.
