The Florida Gators and East Carolina Pirates previewed the upcoming Birmingham Bowl at Friday's press conference. Florida (6-5) was represented by interim head coach D.J. Durkin, center Max Garcia and linebacker Mike Taylor. East Carolina (8-4) was represented by head coach Ruffin McNeill, quarterback Shane Carden, wide receiver Justin Hardy, defensive lineman Chrishon Rose and linebacker Brandon Williams.

At the start of the season, UF volleyball coach Mary Wise called her three seniors — Taylor Unroe, Holly Pole and Maddy Monserez — worker bees. "The amount of work they have put in over the past four years to improve their game and to make each other better," Wise said at UF’s media day on Aug. 14. "What has been so special is watching how invested they are in each other’s improvements." And on Wednesday, the Gators honored their three seniors prior to their final Southeastern Conference match of the regular season against South Carolina. Those three seniors all come from Florida’s backline and have served as the stabilizers for the Gators this season. The senior-laden defense has limited opponents to a .162 hitting percentage this season, which is the best in the SEC and good for 32nd in the country. Students, faculty and members of the Florida State University community gather together to pay respects at a candlelight vigil for students injured in Thursday morning's campus shooting.

Among the many Veterans Day celebrations Tuesday across Gainesville and Alachua County, the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens held a ceremony at the Alachua County Veterans Memorial at 10:30 a.m. It was open to the public and free to active and retired military personnel. Those in attendance enjoyed a drill team demonstration, flag and wreath-laying ceremony and musical tributes. Children and teenagers from both the Milton Lewis Young Marines and the Billy Mitchell Drill Team participated in the services.

Gator fans, young and old, two-legged and four, lined up along West University Avenue to watch the Homecoming Parade on Friday. It was only one of the events for UF’s 2014 Homecoming. That night, thousands of students and alumni flooded Flavet Field to attend Gator Growl, which featured comedy by Brooks Wheelan and music by Foster the People and Ludacris.
