I’ve been coming to Gainesville since before I can remember. My parents are both UF alumni. They love coming back for football games and to visit their favorite bars and restaurants that are still in Gainesville. However, in all the times I visited, we never strayed far from campus. So, when I arrived the week before my freshman year began, I didn’t even know that Gainesville had anything else to offer.

Andrew Klavan, crime novelist and outspoken conservative, speaks Thursday about various social and political issues to a crowd of over 100 people in a classroom in Turlington Hall. The event was hosted by UF’s Young Americans for Freedom.

Ira Glass, the 59-year-old host of the popular radio show “This American Life”, speaks to a packed auditorium at the Phillips Center on Saturday. The speech was titled “Seven Things I’ve Learned,” and was made up of lessons Glass found meaningful throughout his 40 years of broadcasting. These included segments on how to tell a story, how to interview children and learning from failure. Glass took seven questions from the audience at the end of his speech.

Florida freshman Trinity Thomas earned SEC Freshman of the Week for her performance during Florida’s 197.30-196.45 win over Missouri on Friday. Thomas scored a 9.950 on the uneven bars and a 9.900 on her floor routine, for which she finished third.

UF ends LSU’s 35-meet home win streak

The crowd at Pete Maravich Assembly Center rose to its feet when LSU’s McKenna Kelley finished her floor routine. Kelley needed a 9.975 on the routine for the Tigers to win, and she diligently watched the judges with the rest of her teammates as they wrote down her score: 9.875.
