November is already here, and with Thanksgiving right around the corner, there is no better way to show your thanks than to give back to your community.

Volunteering opportunities abound this month as the Gainesville community gears up for the holidays. UF students are able to help out with everything from the Downtown Festival and Art Show to serving food at the Canterbury Equestrian Showplace for a night of country fun.

On Nov. 12-13, volunteers who are interested in helping out with the Downtown Festival and Art Show can help at the No More Homeless Pets booth. The booth will be located between the Hippodrome Theatre and Starbucks, and volunteers will be needed for one or more hours.

No More Homeless Pets is a nonprofit organization dedicated to end the euthanasia of pets through education, sterilization and community involvement, according to the website.

Volunteers will also be needed at the third annual Gainesville Gone Nashville on Nov. 3. The event will be held at the Canterbury Equestrian Showplace in Newberry, and volunteers will be needed for bartending, serving food, registration and check-in, and the silent auction.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Child Advocacy Center, a community-based center dedicated to meet the needs of abused children in the Gainesville area.

For those interested in volunteering for No More Homeless Pets, register on its website.
