Freshman band member braves heat for first Gators performance

The casual volleyball fan may see serving as just a way to get the ball over the net and start the action.
Imagine two fairly built girls returning from lacrosse practice at Southwest Recreation Center. They exit the gym with another male student and carry their heavy equipment toward the bus stop. Upon reaching the bus stop, the weather takes a turn for the worse and rain starts pouring down on the girls.
The UF soccer team has its own version of The Swamp.
Saturday's match against No. 19 Santa Clara was supposed to be the toughest test so far this season for the UF volleyball team.
For many, Gainesville is just a temporary home while these individuals seek their degree - a town just small enough so you still have that "down home feel," yet big enough so Saturday nights aren't spent glued in front of a television watching reruns of "Law and Order."
