UF sets goals to become a top five school
We at National Women’s Liberation call for an end to all sexual assault and rape. One in three women at UF report being sexually assaulted, and we demand real action. UF President Kent Fuchs stated that “any occurrence of sexual assault is unacceptable” in his recent Alligator column that was a response to the Association of American Universities’ (AAU) 2019 Campus Climate survey results; and we agree. But what is he doing about it? Current “prevention training programs” are unacceptable and don’t make a difference in student safety. Rapists must be held accountable.
Despite cold, wet weather, hundreds of people felt warm as they gathered this weekend for the reopenings of the Institute of Black Culture and the Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures.
At the University of Florida, we have one statue of a UF president, Albert Murphree, who was our second president. We have three statues of Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow. And we have many, many statues of alligators.
UF law students have formed a new group called We Believe Survivors. It was created in response to the Levin College of Law’s invitation to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to teach a course on the religious clauses of the First Amendment in Spring 2020.
Reported sexual misconduct at UF is increasing.
Many university presidents want only to hear and share good news. However, the only way our university can grow stronger and become greater is if we understand and are open to what needs to be improved.
After a six-month search, UF selected a new vice president for student affairs.
UF violated state law with its Preview prices. Now, the school is facing a class action lawsuit by people angered by the high costs of orientation.
Several years ago at another university, I met with the faculty members in one of the university’s colleges. I was responsible for leading the search for the college’s next dean, and I wanted to hear the faculty’s input on the search.
UF President Kent Fuchs’ five-year contract will end in June 2020, but that won’t necessarily end his time at UF.
After four weeks of bargaining with UF’s Board of Trustees, UF’s United Faculty of Florida Union (UFF-UF) has finalized a deal to allocate $5.5 million toward salary raises and supplements.
UF classes are canceled on Wednesday as Hurricane Dorian batters the Bahamas and continues to threaten Florida.
Warm greetings to our students and to all members of our extraordinary campus community, on this first day of classes of a new academic year!
About 1,200 students graduated Saturday morning
The Board of Trustees has approved four construction projects on the UF campus totaling over $100 million.
The world watched in horror and grief on Monday as Notre Dame Cathedral burned. Her lead-covered wood roof and majestic spire collapsing into red flames as Parisians sang hymns on roads and bridges. Some 13 million people annually enter the cathedral. I have been one of those awestruck visitors on several occasions. Notre Dame is an exquisite example of French Gothic architecture and an unforgettable symbol of Paris, with its beautiful rose windows, flying buttresses and rib vault. Lost in the news of the past few days is the fact that Notre Dame is foremost a place for worship, particularly for Catholic Christians.
“We found Ian Green does not come off as a leader and appears to speak only when spoken to. Moreover, he has a presence that is, to be frank, unimpressive and lackluster.”
This is the fifth year in a row Fuchs has pranked students.
Parking decals for non-students will increase by $18
